The Cape Autism Charity Trust was founded by Paul and Henriette Hubers. At the age of two, their son Thom, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. At the time Paul and Henriette lived in Holland with their three children. After being directed from the one school to the next, they realised that there was no suitable facility that could provide for Thom’s special needs. Their determination to give Thom the best possible intervention and education led them to open a school for children with Autism with a group of other parents that had the same needs for their children. They opened De Droomboom in 2006 (www.stichtingdedroomboom.nl). They were also involved in campaigns for the improvement of education for all children with Autism in Holland. Henriette also shared her story in a book, Hoera, mijn kind is anders followed by De Dag dat ik hoorde dat..... (www.uitgeverijpica.nl) She is currently busy with her third book, co-authored with a friend who has two sons with ASD. The book will be available in December 2011.

About Cape Autism Charity Trust
The Hubers family relocated to South Africa in 2007. They settled in Somerset West, in the Cape Winelands. Thom was in the privileged position of being able to join an intensive one-on-one programme in Somerset West, ASAP, run by a specialist in the field of Autism, Linda Herbert. Paul and Henriette felt the need to give Thom the opportunity to be part of a social school environment and realised that the facilities in the area were not able to accommodate their son and address his unique needs. With the support of a full time facilitator, he was admitted to a unit for learners with learning difficulties, at one of the local schools.
Again their passion and determination motivated them to raise funds to build a school for children with Autism. They founded the Cape Autism Charity Trust (CACT) as a vehicle to realise this dream. By means of this Non Profit Organisation, registered number IT859/2009, they want to raise awareness for and raise funds to provide for the needs of the children in our community who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Cape Autism Charity Trust, with Paul and Henriette Hubers, has raised the funds to establish The DreamTree School on the campus of Somerset College.
